WOODDUCK FEATHER PREPERATION



Wood duck feathers are used for wings on many dry flies and some wets. This process is how we prepare feather for wings on flies like the cahill, red quill, hendrickson, etc.

1) Select a woodduck feather with even tips. Tip area should be approximately 3/4" wide for a size 12 hook. Hold feather by tips in one hand and with other, strip short fibers from feather stem. Repeat for other side.

2) Holding feather stem in left hand, pull back tips into a neat bundle with right hand.
3)Let go stem with left hand and grab base of tip bundle. You are now ready to:
